Last month, while attending VegFest in Portland, I was introduced to a number of great Pacific Northwest vegetarian-friendly food companies. Among them, three product lines really stood out to me as being healthy, delicious, AND something that W4DM’s readers would genuinely enjoy learning about. Today I’d like to introduce you to the one of those companies – and give you the chance to win some Free Beans in my very first Giveaway!!
But first things first – meet the Better Bean company, based in here in Portland. Led by father-daughter team Keith and Hannah Kullberg, Better Bean demonstrates a strong commitment to using all-natural, vegan-friendly ingredients to create high-quality products, and they have made it their mission to help people eat healthier and live more sustainably. Does it get any better than that? Well, yes it does, because you can be all about mindfully encouraging healthy living and throwing around all kinds of goodness in the world, but bottom-line, if you are selling something to eat and you want people to shell out their hard-earned dollars to buy it, it had better taste good. And that is where Better Beans – a fresh alternative to canned beans – rose above the VegFest (read: Tofu Blues) crowd for me. Better Beans are better. They taste Good. Really good.
Better Bean offers a short list of refrigerated, ready-to-eat bean mixtures and flavors, including Three Sisters Chili, Wholly Chipotle Bean Dip (this one packs a really nice kick!), and Cuban Black Beans (my personal favorite!). Fresh and free of artificial flavorings and preservatives, Better Beans are grown locally and sold in lovely little BPA-free reusable tubs. (Remember when all yogurt cups had real lids and you could reuse them to hold leftovers and hummus and salsa and such? Like that.)
Although Better Beans are good on their own, they also have tons of possibilities for a creative cook. I’ve been having fun experimenting with them this week, and I’m excited to share what I’ve come up with! (Look for a recipe that includes Better Bean Wholly Chipotle Bean Dip tomorrow!)
Giveaway – Free Beans!!
Here’s the deal: First, check this Map Link and make sure you live near to a store that carries Better Beans. (If you win, you will receive coupons for free product which you will need to go and get at your local store: these beans are refrigerated and we cannot mail the actual beans to you!) If that checks out, go ahead and enter to win. You can enter every day between now and midnight Monday, and I’ll announce the winner in my Tuesday post.
